10th June 2018
Run the Heyford Park Airbase Races - fast, flat, fantastic!
Get an insight into what went on 'Behind the Wire' at Oxfordshire's most formidable Cold War Airbase.
Set in the beautiful Cherwell Valley countryside, the three routes all utilise the base's Runway, RAF Taxiway & NATO Taxiway and are therefore pancake flat, traffic-free and pretty much PB guaranteed!
Choose between the 5k, 10k or Half Marathon - equally good for those venturing into racing, moving up a distance or just trying to improve times.
"I had a fantastic day, even though I do a race every week this race stands out as something different, unique environment, it was worth the 120 mile round trip, can't wait for next year, excellent detailed planning as always with Purple Patch and the individual names on each race number was a nice touch"

There is plenty of free, on-site parking.
You will need to display a car sticker in order to gain access to the Airbase – this will be
emailed to you before race day and will also be on the race website. Please make sure that
any spectators coming in a separate car also print one off
Follow the Race Car Park signs & arrows and park only where directed. Do not drive
anywhere else on the base - please remember that this is a restricted access area and certain
areas only are available to us ... and only for the race!
Race packs should be picked up on the day between 08:30 and 9:45 from Race HQ
We will be taking entries on race day between 08:30-09:30, unless we are sold out beforehand – please check the website in the preceding week to find out if there are spaces available.
Please go to the “Entries on the Day” desk in the Race Village in plenty of time to register and pick up a number & chip.
Late entries have a surcharge of £3 and are on a cash only basis
Your chip will be on the back of your race number – be sure not to tamper with it in any way or your time may not be recorded.
The baggage drop will be at the Start/Finish area from 9am. You will be given a baggage tag when you pick up your race pack, which should be attached to your bag before taking it to the drop
Marshals will be stationed along the route at strategic points – please comply with instructions given by the marshals
There will be a mass warm-up at approx 09:45 before heading to the mass start at 10am (all races go off together) 5k, 10km, Half Marathon
All three courses have all been officially measured and certified. They are entirely on tarmac/concrete (disused runways) and free of traffic. All three races will start together at 10am – please self-seed Distance markers: The 5k and 10k routes will be marked with BLUE kilometre markers. The Half Marathon route will be marked with RED Mile markers. Signage and marshals will indicate whenever the routes split - please make sure that you follow the correct sign for the distance you are running! There will be a briefing before each race
Pre-paid junior runners should pick up their race packs as per the adult runners. Late entries should go to the ‘Entries on the Day’ desk to register. There are three junior categories: U- 7’s, U-9’s & U-11’s. U-7’s will run 600m; U-9’s & U-11’s will run 1km. Both races are chiptimed. Your child must be in the correct race for his/her age group. Parents are welcome to run alongside younger children – there is no need to register yourself to do this. Both races start and finish at the main race gantry, which will be clearly visible from the Race Village. All children will receive a fantastic medal after their run. The Junior prizes will be for the 1st boy & girl in each age category. We will present these as soon as we can after the junior race.
There will be toilets adjacent to the start/finish area – they will be accessible at the halfway point in the half marathon. It goes without saying that you should not go to the toilet anywhere other than in the toilets themselves! The future of the race could be in jeopardy if this is ignored and good relations between us and our hosts at the venue are put at risk
There will be water stations along the course at approximately every 5km point. There will also be water at the finish. If you require water prior to the race, please bring a bottle with you. There will not be any refreshments/food on the course - if you require gels, jelly babies, etc, during the race, please bring them with you.
