Down Tow Up Flow Half Marathon

Run this fantastic race - the original and ever-popular Down Tow Up Flow!

A gloriously scenic, flat, multi-terrain, point-to-point half marathon along the Thames towpath (therefore mainly traffic-free). Run in reverse directions each year; in 2018 it is "Up Flow' therefore starting in Windsor and finishing in Marlow, taking in Bourne End, Cookham & Maidenhead along the way.

As this is a point-to-point race, you can (if you wish) park at the finish in Marlow and take the coach provided to the start (additional £8 and must be pre-booked) - once you've finished the race your car will be there waiting for you! Spectacular finish and brilliant for spectators, with plenty of vantage points along the way. Refreshments at the start & finish, so bring the family!

Baggage -  Sponsored by Handy Moves:

The baggage vans will be at the start (Windsor) from 09:00.  All baggage will be taken to the finish (Marlow) for you to collect.  Please attach your baggage tag to your bag before going to the baggage vans

The route:

The race takes you along the towpath from Windsor to Marlow. As a multi-terrain route, it will provide you with different challenges along the way, such as kissing gates and bridges.  The route follows a public footpath and you will meet other users, whether on foot or bicycle – please be considerate to other users. We will do all we can to warn other users in advance and to facilitate your run.  At points you will detour away from the river and across a road – there will be marshals and signage at these points.  Please take care when crossing the roads and be aware that these roads are not closed to traffic; you must stop and make sure the road is clear before crossing.  Our marshals are not allowed to stop traffic for you.  The footpaths can be narrow and rutted in places so please take extra care on these stretches.  Don’t get frustrated if you can’t pass someone – remember there will be a wider section coming up when you can make your move!  Above all, enjoy the route, the countryside and all that entails

Our wonderful marshals:

Marshals will be stationed along the route at strategic points – please comply with any instructions given by the marshals.  Please be aware that there are two road crossings at the Cookham section of the route, where you have to detour away from the river for a short time.  These roads are NOT closed to traffic and normal care must be taken when crossing.  Marshals are NOT allowed to stop traffic for you, nor advise you when it is safe to cross – this remains your responsibility

Mile Markers:

The route will be marked with mile markers

There are no race toilets along the route, but there will be toilets at the start & finish

There will be 5 water stations along the route and a water station at the finish.  There will be no water provided at the start, so if you need water before the race please bring your own bottle.  Please note the water stations provide water only

Prizes & Presentation

Prize categories:

Prizes will be given to 1st, 2nd, 3rd Male & Female (regardless of age) then 1st Male & Female in the following categories: V40, V50, V60, V70+.  If a V40/50/60/70 runner has already collected an overall prize, that category prize will roll down to the next finisher in that category

Medals will be given to each finisher

General Information

Apart from the start & finish, there are a number of good vantage points for spectators along the way:-

Bourne End – Spade Oak is a great place to cheer on! There is a car park at the bottom of Coldmoorholme Lane, then it is a very short walk across the railway line to the riverside

Cookham – park by the green (near to the Crown Pub) and walk across the grass to the towpath

Maidenhead – park in the public car park at the upper end of Ray Mead Road and walk across the road to the river.  Alternatively park in the car park at the lower end of Ray Mead Road near to the Maidenhead Bridge and wait just before the bridge

It takes a lot of marshals and helpers to put on a race, especially in a location such as along a towpath.  If a member of your family would like to help as well as cheer you on, please ask him/her to get in touch.  Or if you are injured and cannot run, perhaps you might like to help out instead.  Marshaling is fun, rewarding and very much appreciated by all!  Please either call us on 0207 684 7185 or email: info@theraceorganiser.com
