    Family Mile

    1 M run £10.00
    More Details
    Description

In order to deliver a COVID-secure, contact-free event at Run Silverstone this year, the format of the event has required extensive adaptation. Every inch of the site will be used to minimise contact and give participants as much space as possible throughout the event.

The family mile would usually take place ahead of the mass start for the 5K, 10K and Half Marathon. These races will now be taking place simultaneously throughout the entire event from 08:00 to 16:00, with start waves allocated by pace.

It is not viable to allocate waves to the family mile for it to take place alongside these distances, and it would not be possible for parents to complete the family mile with their child and make it back to the start line in time for their wave due to the one-way system in place around the site.

The one-way system from the car park to the start line - and from the finish line back to the car park - is using much of the space available at the site. Families and children will not have anywhere to wait or spectate whilst their parent or guardian is completing their 5K, 10K or Half Marathon.

We're sorry to inform you that, with these measures in place, the Family Mile is sadly no longer possible.

All those entered have been contacted by email. If you haven't received an email please click here.

It is vital that you complete this just before the event, but no later than 5pm on Saturday 14 November. If you have not completed the Health Declaration, you will not be permitted to enter the site on the day.

The form will include fields for NHS Test and Trace information - this information is required even though you have already supplied it as part of your entry to the event. Your Run Silverstone Pack

Your pack, including your bib number, will be posted to you prior to the event if you entered on, or before, Sunday 8 November (and where a valid UK address has been provided).

Your run will be timed and the timing chip attached to the back of your bib should not be removed.

Don’t worry if you don’t receive your pack before event day. Your entry confirmation email will grant you access to the site, and once in the one-way system you will be able to make your way to Enquiries to collect your replacement bib number. You do not need to email us to chase your pack.

    Start Waves

There will be no mass start this year - you will be allocated a start wave between 08:00 and 12:40.

The time of your start wave will be communicated to you in your pre-event email, which you will receive by 10 November. Plan to arrive between 30 to 60 minutes before your start wave.

Waves will be allocated according to pace (not distance) to reduce the need to overtake on the route. Runners of a similar pace will be placed in the same wave, starting with those with lower finish times in earlier waves.

Each wave will consist of all distances (5K, 10K and Half Marathon), please be aware of your fellow participants whilst out on the course and pay attention to signage and marshals.

Wheelchair entrants will be at the head of the first wave at 08:00 with a 5-minute interval following before the first runners cross the start line.

When registering online you will be asked to submit your estimated finish time, please be aware there is a 4-hour cut off at Run Silverstone.

If you would like to run with a friend and/or family members, please ensure you submit the same estimated finish time(s).

Run Silverstone with family or friends

Please follow current government regulations regarding groups and social distancing.

The 5K, 10K and Half Marathon courses will be open simultaneously for the duration of the event - if you would like to run with a friend and/or family members, please ensure you submit the same estimated finish time(s).

Please bear in mind the following:

    • Start waves will be allocated according to pace, each wave consisting of all three distances. If you and your friend/family members are doing different distances you may start together, but you will finish at different times. To move everyone safely through the event, we are not able to provide any space for spectating this year. Once you have left the rewards area, you will follow the one-way system back to the car park. If you want to meet anyone, please do this back at your car.
    • The courses for the 5K, 10K and Half Marathon are not the same. If you and your friends/family have submitted the same estimated finish times but entered different distances, you will only run together for short sections where the courses share the circuit.

If you have already entered and would like to amend your estimated finish time, please log in to your Race Organiser account and update this information as accurately as possible (in the required hh:mm:ss format) by 18 October.

    No Spectators

Sadly, in order to move everyone safely through the event, we are not able to offer space to Spectators this year.

We want you to feel safe and comfortable at Run Silverstone, and we are going to use every inch of the site to minimise contact and give you as much space as possible before, during and after your run.

    When you arrive

The car park will be open from 07:00.

Please do as much of your preparation as possible in the car park.

Arrive ready to run - allow yourself enough time to park, get ready and enter the site. It will take you 30 minutes to walk from the car park to the Enquiries and Bag Drop area, please do not arrive more than 60 minutes before your start wave.

Toilets will be available in the car park from 07:00.

Before leaving the car park please fasten your bib number to the front of your top using the safety pins provided, your bib should be visible at all times. When you are ready, follow signs and instructions from stewards - you will need to have your bib number OR confirmation email ready to show to security. If you do not have any evidence to show you have entered the event you will be asked to leave.

Once you have left the car park you will join the one-way system that will, eventually, take you to the start line! You will not be able to return to the car park until after you have completed your run, please ensure you have everything you need with you before you leave the car park. There will be bottled water at the finish, and at water stations along the course, but please try to be self-sufficient and carry with you what you need to refuel and hydrate during the event.

There will be nowhere to stop or wait once you have left the car park and entered the one-way system.

You will follow the one-way system and pass ‘last chance’ loos as you get closer to the start line.

    The One-way System :

Once you have left the car park you will join the one-way system that will, eventually, take you to the start line. Parts of your walk from the car park will be alongside the live course, feel free to give earlier starters a cheer as they pass!

You will follow the system to the Enquiries and Bag Drop area, after this you will pass the loos (this will be your last chance to use them before you start!).

At this stage you will enter a holding zone where you will be called forward according to your wave into the National Straight - this is the start chute! Following the socially distanced markers on the ground you will steadily approach the start line where you will start on the marshal’s signal.

Sanitiser stations will be located along the one-way system - please use them.

    Enquiries:

The one-way system will bring you to the Bag Drop and Enquiries area. At Enquiries you will be able to resolve any of the following:

    • You did not receive your pack in the post.
    • Swapping to a different distance.
    • Anything else that cannot be resolved in advance.

If it’s possible to resolve your enquiry prior to the day please email info@runsilverstone.com - if you know now that you would like to transfer to a different distance please let us know as soon as possible. You do not need to email us to chase your pack.

    Start

Stepping onto the hallowed tarmac of the Silverstone Circuit along the National Straight you will find yourself in the start chute.

Stand on the socially distanced markers on the ground, moving forward to the next marker as soon as the participant ahead is clear.

Once you reach the start line you will go, go, go on the marshal’s signal!

There will be an interval between each signal to allow for social distancing on the course.

There will be sacks just before the start line to discard your top layer if necessary, but please be aware that you will not be able to recover any discarded item after the event. We do not have the capacity to quarantine the discarded items and then sort them into lost property, donations and waste - all discarded items will be disposed of.

Please consider this when preparing for the event - we recommend Solution Green compostable bin liners as an environmentally friendly alternative.

    The Course

The 5K, 10K and Half Marathon courses will be open simultaneously for the duration of the event and will be slightly different to last year. Please be aware of your fellow participants whilst out on the course and pay attention to signage and marshals.

You will not complete multiple laps for any distance, the Half Marathon course uses the perimeter road as well as the circuit, so there are only short sections of the course that you use more than once.

The courses follow the wide Silverstone circuit, pit lanes and perimeter road with plenty of space available. This, and the managed start, means there will be more than enough capacity for you to move at a safe distance from other participants, with room to overtake.

There will be short sections of the course where overtaking is not possible – please pay attention to marshals and signage.

    Pacers

Unfortunately we are unable to provide pacers due to the interval between the signals releasing you across the start line, and current RunBritain (UK Athletics) guidance on social distancing.

As an alternative, Pace Pockets are fabric wristbands with a storage pocket for all your running essentials, such as keys and gels, and printed with your choice of half marathon splits. Use promo code PPZERO during purchase to facilitate FREE DELIVERY on all orders. Pace Pockets are available from pacepocket.run

    Licensing

Subject to approval, this race will be licensed with UK Athletics and the results submitted to Run Britain/Power of 10 within a week of the race.

    Leaving:

Once you have left the rewards area, please clear the area as quickly as possible and follow the one-way system back to the car park.

If you want to meet friends or family, please do this back at your car.

Toilets will be available in the car park to 17:00.

To minimise contact it is important that you are at the event for the least amount of time possible.

    FACILITIES

    Bag Drop:

Any personal items not required during the event should be left in your vehicle

Bag Drop will be limited to reduce the number of areas with queues and to reduce direct contact between our staff and participants.

There will be sacks just before the start line to discard your top layer if necessary, but please be aware that you will not be able to recover any discarded item after the event. We do not have the capacity to quarantine the discarded items and then sort them into lost property, donations and waste - all discarded items will be disposed of. Please consider this when preparing for the event.

We recommend Solution Green compostable bin liners as an environmentally friendly alternative.

    Toilets:

Toilets will be available in the car park from 07:00.

It is a 30-minute walk from the car park to the ‘last minute’ loos. These loos are accessible from the one-way system – this is your last chance to go before you cross the start line!

    Sanitiser Stations:

There will be sanitiser stations located frequently along the one-way system, all the way from the car park to the start line, and then immediately after the finish line.

Stewards will prompt you to use hand sanitiser as you leave the car park - this will be one of many places you will be asked to do this.

We are minimising the number of contact points throughout the event and will be cleaning all equipment, but please cooperate with steward prompts and sanitise your hands when asked to do so.

    Marshals:

Marshals will be present on the course throughout the race.

    Distance Markers:

The route will be clearly indicated with arrows, tape and distance markers where necessary.

    Water Stations:

Please try to be self-sufficient and bring with you what you will need to refuel and hydrate during the event. Self-serve, grab-and-go water stations stocked with sealed bottles of water will be on the course but please only use them if necessary to minimise contact.

    Changing/Showers:

There will be no changing or shower facilities.

    FINISH, REWARDS AND RESULTS

Things will be a little bit different as you cross the finish line. There will still be marshals to clap and cheer for you, but they won’t be handing you your medal and weighing you down with goodies. All of this will be self-service.

Once you’ve crossed the finish line please follow the signage and stewards directions, you will be required to keep moving to keep the area clear for finishers coming up behind you.

The first thing you will be asked to do is sanitise your hands before helping yourself to the water, medal and goodies laid out on tables for you.

Staff will be on hand to clean and restock the tables, and to answer any questions, but they won’t be handing anything to you. Please observe the queue markers and ensure that you continue to social distance as you make your way through the rewards area.

Once you’re loaded with rewards, please clear the area as quickly as possible. If you want to meet friends or family, please do this back at your car. To minimise contact it is important that you are at the event for the least amount of time possible.

    Results:

Results will be uploaded live to our website (internet connection permitting). In all cases, we expect to communicate results to all participants within 24 hours of the event.

    MERCHANDISE

Complimentary finisher t-shirts will not be available to help minimise contact and keep everyone moving safely through the event without bottlenecks and crowds gathering.

Limited edition Run Silverstone 2020 merchandise will be available to order until 8 November or until stocks last, and will be delivered to you before the event. Merchandise will not be available to collect on the day.

We have made the decision not to offer complimentary finisher t-shirts to reduce the environmental impact of Run Silverstone. A normal polyester t-shirt is equivalent to around 12 plastic bottles, with an estimated 300,000 garments going to landfill in the UK every year.

At the end of 2019 we donated ten huge bags of leftover t-shirts to the amazing guys at ReRun Clothing who sort and redistribute clothing, however going forward we want to do what we can to eradicate the amount of textile waste we produce.

Once you have left the car park you will join the one-way system that will, eventually, take you to the start line! You will not be able to return to the car park until after you have completed your run, please ensure you have everything you need with you before you leave the car park.

If your responses to any of the questions change after you have submitted the form, please complete and submit another.
