Get an insight into what went on 'Behind the Wire' at Oxfordshire's most formidable Cold War Airbase.
Set in the beautiful Cherwell Valley countryside, both distances utilise the base's runway, RAF taxiway and NATO taxiway and are therefore pancake flat, traffic-free and pretty much PB guaranteed!

When: Saturday 20 June 2020 at 10:00.
Where: Heyford Park, Upper Heyford, Bicester, Oxfordshire, OX25 5HF.
Pricing: £50 Unaffiliated, £47 Affiliated (British Triathlon Federation), £0 Gold Members.
Entry on the Day: Subject to a £5 surcharge (cash only, subject to availability).
Age Requirements: Participants must be aged 17 or over on the day of the race.
Registration: From 08:00 to 09:30. Participants will need to register no later than 30 minutes prior to their wave start time. Transition will be open from 08:30.
Race Packs: For collection at registration on the day only, nothing will be posted. Race packs will contain;
Preparation: Pre-race preparation;
Route (Run): The route is entirely on tarmac (disused runways), free of traffic and consists of 1 lap of a 5K course.
Transition (Run/Cycle): Running in the transition area is prohibited. Without removing your race number, leave any running kit in the transition area for the second leg of your run. Your cycle helmet must be on and fastened before you touch your bicycle and remain secured until it is racked on your return. You must walk with your bicycle to the transition zone exit and mount only on instruction from the marshal. Cycling in the transition zone is also prohibited.
Route (Cycle): The route is entirely on tarmac (disused runways), free of traffic and consists of 2 laps of a 10K course.
Transition (Cycle/Run): Signage will indicate the end of the cycle course and entrance into a dismounting area, immediately before the transition zone. You must dismount in the dismounting area and walk your bike into the transition zone. Rack your bike, remove your helmet and make any other required kit changes. Walk out of the transition zone and begin your run where indicated. Your race number, pinned to the front of the top in which you are running, must remain visible at all times.
Route (Run): One final 2.5K run.
Spectators: Spectators are welcome to position themselves on the route but will see competitors most frequently if positioned around the start/finish/transition area.
Licensing: This race will be licensed with the British Triathlon Federation and the results submitted within a week of the race.
Pacers: Pacers will not be offered at this race.
Bag Drop: Whilst we recommend bringing as little as possible (surplus to the kit required to compete), you can leave your belongings with us while you race using the tear-off baggage strip on your race number, collecting after you finish by presenting your race number..
Toilets: Toilets will be available at the start/finish area throughout the event at no charge.
Race Marshals: Marshals will be present on the course throughout the race.
Distance Markers: The cycle/run routes will be clearly indicated with arrows, tape and distance markers where necessary.
Water Stations: There will be a water station at the end of the 5K run at which water will be provided in recyclable plastic cups.
Goody Bag: All runners will receive refreshments and snacks on finishing the race.
Refreshments: Pre/Post-race coffee and refreshments will be available.
Changing/Showers: Changing and shower facilities will be not available at this event.
Lost Property: Lost property from an event will be kept for one month. If unclaimed, or ownership cannot be determined, lost property items will be donated to charity.
Results: Results will be uploaded live to our website (internet connection permitting) and, where possible/practical, timing print-outs will be available at the event. In all cases, results will be communicated to all pre-registered participants within 24 hours of the event.
Medals: All finishers will receive a medal on completing the race.
T-shirts are available for purchase during the order process and, subject to availability, at the race for £8 (cash only). Please note that pre-purchased T-shirts must be collected at this race and will not be available for collection at any other events.
Directions: The event is held at Heyford Park, Upper Heyford, Bicester, Oxfordshire, OX25 5HD. From the M40 this is approximately 9 miles from Junction 9, and 4 miles from Junction 10. You will pick up signs to the race once you have reached the village of Upper Heyford. Please be aware that we will not be using the main entrance to Heyford Park, so follow signs until you reach the Race Car Park entrance.
Parking: You will need to display a car pass in order to gain access to the Airbase which will be emailed to you prior to race day. Please ensure that any spectators arriving in separate cars also print a copy. Follow the Race Car Park signs and park only where directed. Do not drive anywhere else on the base and please remember that this is a restricted access location and certain areas available only to us... and only for the race!
Buggies/Pushchairs: This event is not suitable for runners with buggies/pushchairs.
Wheelchair Users: This race may be suitable for wheelchair users, please contact us to discuss any requirements prior to entering this event.
Earphones/Headphones: Noise-cancelling earphones/headphones are prohibited and whilst we discourage the use of other earphones/headphones at this event, participants choosing to use them should ensure they are set to a minimum volume such that instructions from marshals or other race officials can be clearly understood. We reserve the right to disqualify participants who cannot hear instructions as a result of their use.
Event Time-Limit: Whilst there is no strict time-limit for this race, in order that we adhere to the restrictions imposed by the venue hire agreement, it may be necessary for us to begin deconstruction of the registration/finish area(s) approximately 4 hours after the start of the event to facilitate the removal of all equipment from the premises by the agreed time.
