There may be another cycle event in the area on the same day, so be sure to ONLY follow the blue arrows on yellow background

DO’S & DON’TS

This is a non-competitive ride, NOT a race

Do:

  • Enjoy the ride
  • Challenge yourself
  • Follow the highway code
  • Wear a helmet
  • Single file on narrow roads allow vehicles to pass safely treat all road users with respect

Don’t:

  • Drop litter (including gel packets)
  • Behave in a manner that may offend others
  • Impede traffic flow
  • Ride in large groups in the middle of the road
  • Ride on the wrong side of the road

COURSE SPLITS & REJOINING

The two Course Splits are just before and just after Lambourn. They will be clearly marked with a ‘COURSE SPLIT’ sign at the junction and another sign after the split confirming which course you are now on.

The first course split is at Lambourn, where the EPIC course splits from the STANDARD & SHORT courses

The second course split is just after Lambourne where the STANDARD & SHORT courses split

The EPIC (80M) course rejoins the STANDARD (65M) course at Aldbourne

The SHORT course rejoins the EPIC & STANDARD course at Little Bedwyn

All courses finish on the same route between Little Bedwyn & Hungerford.

Please remember that signs can be tampered with on events such as these, therefore it is highly recommended that you download the ROUTE MAPS (see below) and bring them with you as back- up.

ROUTE MAPS

Route map will be available to you three weeks before event day – we will email them to you. You can then opt to download them onto your GPS via .gpx files, etc, or choose a printable version that you can print and put in your pocket for the ride. Look in the column to the right of the map for these options. If you have difficulty, please email us on: info@purplepatchrunning.com.

FEED STATIONS

There will be one feed station for the Short course and two feed stations for the Standard & Epic courses. Feed station 1 is at 25 miles (for all courses) at the Swan Inn, Great Shefford, just before Lambourn. Feed station 2 (for Standard & Epic courses only) is at 41M (Standard) / 56M (Epic) at Axford Village Hall. There will be water for you to fill your bottles & energy drink for those who want it. There will be a good selection of savoury and sweet things to eat and restock your energy stores with. Please do take what you need, but please don’t overdo it – there will be plenty of hungry riders coming in behind you!

HORSES

As this is an area popular with horse-owners, please be extra careful – horses can be easily frightened by bikes

  • please keep your distance whilst waiting to overtake
  • let the rider know you are coming through
  • pass slowly on the outside, with consideration, leaving plenty of room
  • it’s safer to pass in small groups of four, riding two abreast, than a large group
  • if you are in a large group, make your presence known so that the rider can try to find somewhere to stop
  • if the horse is startled and it is obvious you need to stop, then please do so to avoid a serious incident

AFTER THE RIDE

FINISH LINE

Ride straight over the timing mat and you’re done! Pick up your medal and bask in your achievement for a few minutes, then head over to the catering area and get yourself some hot soup or coffee/tea. Don’t worry about your chip – it is disposable so no need to try to return it

PHOTOS AND YOUR FINISHING TIME

Photos will be on the event website as soon as possible after the event. Your ride time will also be posted under the tab on the right hand side, named “Times/Photos”
